The Lloyd’s List Podcast: The view from Gothenburg

The Lloyd’s List Intelligence Executive Meeting is an annual Gothenburg gathering of shipping leaders and analysts who share views on how best to navigate the turbulent waters that lie ahead. While this is generally a pretty exclusive affair the podcast team were granted an access all areas pass and headed off to Gothenburg in search of insight. Featuring on this week’s edition with our markets editor Michelle Wiese Bockmann we have LLI’s lead analyst Christopher Pålsson talking tanker numbers, ABB’s marine and ports head Jorgen Karlsson talking tech and Stena Bulk chief Erik Hanell talking security and Stena Impero

Listen to the latest edition of Lloyd’s List’s weekly podcast — your weekly briefing on the stories shaping shipping

THIS week we’re in glorious Gothenburg for the Lloyd’s List Intelligence annual executive meeting.

This is the event lead by our consulting division that brings together Sweden’s maritime sector — a group that punches above its weight when it comes to global influence — and uses the combined intellectual firepower to examine the hot topics of the moment in shipping.

Topics at this year’s event ranged from sanctions and security to decarbonisation and future fuels with some very useful forecasts for the year ahead along the way.

Sitting down at the Lloyd’s List Microphone this week we have Erik Hanell, who runs Sweden’s Stena Bulk, offering some startling insights into security in the wake of last year’s Stena Impero affair in the Strait of Hormuz.

But we start with markets editor Michelle Wiese Bockmann talking to our own Christopher Pålsson, who heads up Lloyd’s List Intelligence’s consulting team, with Jorgen Karlsson, head of ABB marine and ports division in Sweden.

Shipping market surprises are on the agenda and — spoiler alert — tanker bulls should prepare for a controversial view on supply forecast, along with some interesting chat around innovation and alternative fuels research underway in Scandinavia.
