India approves new deepwater container port to add capacity and boost traffic
To cater to increasingly large containerships, Indian has approved the development of a $9.2bn deepsea port on the west coast of the country around 120 miles north of Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai. The port will mostly cater to the spillover traffic from JNPT
The new port will give JNPT a capacity of around 10m teu on completion in 2023
