Westports absorbs lockdown impact as volumes rebound
Both gateway and transhipment boxes helped to make up for the weak performance in the first six months of the year as third quarter volumes rose 6%. But nine-month throughput was still 4% lower and the group warned of the 'long -tail effects' of coronavirus on global consumption and economic activities
As many countries emerged from lockdowns and movement restrictions in the third quarter, volumes also rebounded. Various forms of curbs on movement have been reimposed in the fourth quarter. However, Westports expects a less adverse impact as societies and economies adjust to these latest measures
