Greeks spent $3.6bn on secondhand acquisitions last year
That Greek owners were the leading force in last year’s S&P market comes as no surprise, but shipbrokers’ statistics underline how much they have been favouring secondhand tonnage over newbuilding ordering — with the tanker sector providing the only exception
Total secondhand and resale acquisitions by Greek buyers last year numbered 233 vessels for an aggregate amount of $3.6bn, ahead of Chinese owners who acquired 179 vessels for an aggregate of $2.7bn
