European nations push IMO for emissions measures by mid-2020s
An emissions levy of between $250 and $400 per tonne of CO2 equivalent could make low-carbon fuels competitive with fossil fuels, some European countries tell the IMO based on current estimates
Denmark, France, Germany and Sweden tell IMO it needs to start negotiating measures that will incentivise the adoption of low- and zero-carbon fuels, such as an emissions levy, a cap and trade emissions system and a low greenhouse gas fuel standard, and bring them into force by mid-decade
