NYK builds world’s biggest LNG-fuelled car carrier
Despite the space taken up on the ship for LNG tankage, the vessel will still have a capacity of 7,000 units. Being built at Shin Kurushima, the vessel is expected to be about 40% more energy efficient than previous types of similar vessel. It will more than meet the International Maritime Organization’s EEDI phase 3 requirements
NYK will be working with Japan’s Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on research to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by using alternative fuel and the vessel will also be fitted with additional technology and voyage results studied
