MOL joins project to launch first zero-emission electric tanker
An innovative coalition has enlisted the help of three more Japanese companies to build on MOL-led e5 Lab Inc’s efforts to build two zero-emission tankers. The group of seven companies aims to of establish new ocean shipping infrastructure services using various initiatives that will develop, realise, and commercialise electric vessels
The ‘e5 consortium’ — comprising seven companies, including MOL and Mitsubishi Corp — plans to launch the world’s first zero-emission electric tanker, powered by large-capacity lithium ion batteries, in March 2022
