South Africa plans green ship recycling yard
The planned ship recycling facility — known as 34South — would offer a convenient location for end-of-life ships rounding the Cape of Good Hope, removing the requirement to pay tolls through the Suez Canal
The facility, on the west coast of South Africa, would use a shiplift to transfer vessels into an environmentally friendly decommissioning facility rather than the beaching method, which has been heavily criticised for causing pollution
